Ability to play both wav and mp3 formats
« on: April 12, 2015, 06:21:29 PM »
Hi
I've spent quite a few hours recently downloading new sounds and making a substantial database, how ever most of them were in mp3 format, not a problem or so I thought as I run them through a file convertor to flip them into wav format, however RCS won't allow access to these converted files.

The convertor does also allow the joining of files so with the wav files I do have I managed to create some great new sounds.

So is there any chance of a wider choice on file playback ?

I have spent several hours trying to play mp3 files. Sadly labview only support wave files. I have with succes made it use a third part software like vlc player or windows media play. But when making software for many kind off users,  resulted in too much if user use vlc player do this and if no media player do this and so on. Honestly it messed up completely. So I ended up only supporting waves and use my time better for bug fixing and new race features.  So sorry Ade i would also prefer mp3 as the files easier to get. And also have a much lower size.

Hi
Ok Martin,is there any reason why RCS won't play the files I've converted ?I get a 1200 error and RCS crashes with these files and needs a full re boot.

I can however join files I've received as wav and RCS plays these ok.

Hi
One other reason my converted files might not be working,I've opted to use best quality on the conversion and when it's completed it shows as a 2.5mb file, load it into RCS and part of the message that appears says to many waves.?

So I've converted it again this time using 8 bit quality but ran out of time to test it,if it works I will try 16 bit and try it again.

Interestingly the file size shrank from 2.5mb to 350kb using 8 bit so I hope it works as I've got some great sounds I could pass on.

Hi
I've converted all my sound files from mp3 into wav format and them compressed them into 8 bit and they all work in rcs64 v2 and v4.

I've got them in two zip files both of which I've passed on to Marcel but as the team is on there hols at the present it may be a while before you see them.

If however you would like them sooner then please pm me your email address and I will send the files over, there are some which are already included but there are many new ones and even ones I've joined together to make some great into the pitlane sounds and race end sounds, there is a great air jack sound which is in its original format and other versions where I've included it in other sounds.

One thing I have noticed is at the end of certain races, most notably dtm there is a fireworks display,so now there is a very good fireworks sound and also files that I've joined using the fireworks sound.

It may be that RCS can accept 16 bit stereo format but for now all the files are in there smallest size which is the above mentioned 8 bit.

I will see if I can link or somehow send the file convertor/joiner I've been using its free and very simple to use,and as I found out the other day,if you just want to convert then you can load all your files in at the same time and just hit format/quality/convert,it's that easy.

If you try to stretch the files to high,32 bit the RCS crashes.

Excellent job, Ade. How big is the zip file? I think the team could make it available on the RCS website as an audio package.

Thanks Ade,

Some excellent sounds, I will rename them and make sure they will be present in future update of RCS.
If people want them sooner, we can use the website or rcs64rms mail

Hi
I've spent a lot of time trying to get real car sounds but the sites that have them listed want stupid money for them but the search has given me another idea but it will take a bit of time to get them together.

Using a youtube downloader I can then convert them from mp4 into mp3 or wav and then edit them for fade in and out,I've already found a great site on youtube that has high Def sound and the cars filmed are current lmp cars and most of the past and present crop of superclass, the Ferrari Fxx is staggering.

So once I have compiled a few i will pass them on.

Hi
I've just emailed Marcel with a few more sounds so give him a while and if you ask nicely he might pass them on. :)

Hi
Just got a clean copy of Audacity so started to make my own sounds, the plan being if you drive a MK2 Escort on track then you will here a full house Cosworth BDG on song, which I've already done,Lotus Cortina next and then onto the LMP cars.

Pit sounds and back ground ambience are all planned...
